Romance and Inspiration – Kapolei Golf

There’s so much to be inspired by today.  We have the the best of everything at our fingertips.  I’d love to share this inspirational story and wonderful couple.  This is a bit of a long post… but worth it. Melveen and Gynard are one of the most wonderful couples I’ve had the honor to meet and photograph. Mel and G invited me into their lives like family, and I appreciate that.  Mel is so beautiful, inside and out, so humble and generous, curious and shy.  G, as we call him, is an old soul. Deep, thoughtful and wise beyond his years. They make a very interesting couple due to the fact that they’re into so many things.

Mel and G got married at the Kapolei Golf Club. The ballroom is casual as a backdrop.  The club is quaint for ceremonies and receptions it will host 150 guests or so.  The tiled walls and the floor to ceiling glass make outstanding portrait backdrops and the light is very dependable.

Mel got ready at her sisters house in Ewa Beach and G got ready at the club…The house was a great backdrop to some beautiful portraits (I love the one of Mel and her sister putting shoes on) and we even got to hear Mel grace us with a “snack” from her piano repertoire.

G and the boys had the whole locker room at the golf club but still couldn’t figure out the tie situation.  We had fun playing around keeping the nerves in check.  G had lost his dad in his teen years so he had to grow up quick being raised by his mom alone.  G is so grateful to his mother for what she has done and showed that gratitude and a little grief for his dad in a very soft and touching moment on the dance floor.  Thank you Gloria we love you!

Mel and G had a ceremony that had some tradition to it and some contemporary elements.  There was a cord ceremony signifying unity and we also had a sand ceremony, again signifying unity, one traditional and one contemporary. And that’s how I see this amazing couple, contemporary and traditional.

I’m so grateful for being a part of this beautiful couple and this amazing day!

I’d like to thank Jeff DePonte for lighting the way!
