Once or twice a year, we bring our studio to shoot portraits of the beautiful dancers at Na Maka O Puuwai Aloha dance studio in Waipio. I can’t tell you how much of a joy it is watching these girls grow up. It’s exciting seeing the girls pick up their new costumes for the upcoming hoike and then perform and pose in front of our cameras! Na Maka ‘O Pu’uwai Aloha is directed by Kumu Hula Mandi Scott and has been expanding into many genre of dance and performing arts… she’s even now adding ballet! Dancers are indeed my favorite subject because they understand the visual communication that the body has. Dance is the universal language of celebration and expression. Cultures all around the world covet their heritage through dance. When you see the beauty of it… there’s a reason why!
